![]() The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was added during the fall 2000 race weekend, and since then has been a Friday staple of the spring race weekend. Since 1971, however, Dover has been home to a spring and fall NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, with the NASCAR Nationwide Series joining the schedule for an annual race in 1982, before becoming a twice-yearly event as well in 1986. In the Monster Mile’s first two years of existence, it hosted just one NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race per year. With a unique blend of speeds in excess of 175 mph, and banking of nine degrees on its narrow straightaways and 24 degrees in its sweeping turns, Dover has earned the nickname the “Monster Mile” for its tough nature on both man and machine. ![]() Dover International Speedway, known as the world’s fastest one-mile concrete oval, has been hosting NASCAR events since it first opened with the inaugural running of the “Mason-Dixon 300” on July 6, 1969.
